Day Hospital Treatment
SIRH's Day Hospital Treatment Program helps people who need the same
intensity and frequency of therapy services associated with an
inpatient stay, but do not require overnight hospitalization. A
patient's therapy is scheduled throughout the day to allow adequate
rest between sessions.
Nursing
supervision is available with
training on medical issues such as diabetic teaching and wound care.
The Rehab Team assures that each patient's
treatment plan is specific to his or her needs. Team conferences are
held weekly and are attended by a representative from each
therapeutic discipline, the physician and the case manager.
The program is under the direction of a physiatrist (a physician
who specializes in rehabilitation) who is responsible for the
leadership of the patient's program. Day Hospital is designed to be
flexible to meet the varied needs of our patients. Treatment may
vary in frequency of days and the therapy needed. For example, a
total knee replacement patient requiring physical therapy with
greater intensity may come for twice daily treatments of physical
therapy five days per week with a rest break between sessions. This
intensity of treatment would reduce as the patient progressed.
However, a patient who has suffered a stroke might require physical,
occupational and speech therapies with greater intensity for a
longer period of time.
