Kinesiotaping Program
Kinesiotaping is a new technique often referred to
as magic tape. The tape is commonly fixed around the joint(s) for
added support and is often a replacement for bulky braces. Southern
Indiana Rehab Hospital has eleven physical and occupational
therapists certified in this technique.

Kinesiotaping is designed to relieve pain or an abnormal feeling on
the muscle or skin. It has many benefits, such as providing support
to muscles during movement and assisting with decreasing swelling in
the arm or leg.
Kinesiotaping originated in Japan in the early 1970s, and was
officially introduced into the United States in the mid 1990s. Its
initial purpose was to use this magic tape in clinical rehab
settings. In the late 1980s this tape was used on volleyball
players in Japan. Although it continues to be used on athletes, its
greatest use is on the non-athletic population.
