Nursing Department
Southern Indiana Rehabilitation Hospital is dedicated to the
rehab care of adults and children with injury, illness, or
disability. The nursing department serves a vital role in the
delivery of health care to its patients.
A primary nurse assumes the responsibility for the daily nursing
care of each individual patient. The nurse also teaches the patient
about physical limitations, changes needed in lifestyle, medications
and possible specialized care needed after discharge. Unit
secretaries and nursing assistants are also available to help meet patients' needs.
Southern Indiana Rehabilitation Hospital uses an
interdisciplinary or team approach comprised
of physicians, nurses, therapists, case managers, psychologists, and
dieticians. Weekly meetings are held with the patient's physician
and staff directly involved in patient care to determine patient
goals and evaluate progress. At these meetings, the rehab nurse
often acts as a patient advocate by ensuring that patient needs,
expectations, and goals are being addressed throughout the process.
