Southern
Indiana Rehab Hospital Staff Receive National Brain Injury
Certification
New Albany, IN . . . 16 Team members at Southern
Indiana Rehab Hospital received national certification as Level I
Brain Injury Specialists from the American Academy for the
Certification for Brain Injury Specialists (AACBIS) on January 30th,
2007. With the addition of these certified team members, Southern
Indiana Rehab Hospital has increased its certified staff to 27 who
include Case Managers, Nurses, Psychologists, Physical Therapists,
Occupational Therapists, and Speech Language Pathologists. Southern
Indiana Rehab Hospital currently employees more nationally certified
providers than any other single health care provider in Indiana or
Kentucky.
The National Brain Injury Association established AACBIS in 1996, in
order to address the need for specially trained individuals who
provide care for those suffering from brain injury. In addition, the
National Brain Injury Association strives to improve awareness of
the devastating impact of brain injury on those who sustain the
injury, their caregivers and the community. This certification
ensures that the health care provider is meeting established
competency standards in the treatment and care of brain-injured
individuals.
Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital (SIRH) is a 60-bed inpatient and
outpatient, not-for-profit hospital owned in a unique partnership
with three of the areas most respected health care leaders: Frazier
Rehab Institute, Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services and
Clark Memorial Hospital. Since 1994, SIRH has been providing
inpatient and outpatient physical, occupational, speech and
neuropsychology therapy services to children and adults suffering
from injuries, illnesses and disabilities.
For more information about the physical rehabilitation of brain
injury survivors, contact Linda Moore, Southern Indiana Rehab
Hospital Brain Injury Program Coordinator at (812) 941-6142.
