New Albany, IN. . . Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital (SIRH) is
hosting one of 15 events in the 2005 Senior Games. With seven days
of competitive activities for senior citizens 55 and older, nearly
300 senior athletes will take part in various events to help raise
funds for Lifespan Resources “Meals on Wheels” program. Senior Games
run from June 1-10, 2005 at various locations throughout southern
Indiana.
SIRH is teaming up with Lifespan Resources to provide the newest
quality entertainment and therapeutic activity at the Senior Games -
with “Toss ‘Em” – a game similar to horseshoes. The participants
toss beanbags. A ringer is scored when the beanbag is projected
through a 6.5 inch hole in the middle of a plywood sheet. The
plywood or “Pit” is propped up at a twenty-five degree angle. All
tosses are pitched underhanded at 20 feet from the pit. Each
participant may throw up to 30 bags.
Other events at this year’s games include: bake off, senior squabble
(Family Feud), cards, checkers, dancing, basketball toss, billiards,
one or two lap walk, horseshoes, fishing, bowling, and miniature
golf. Senior Games are directed by Lifespan Resources, an agency
that provides services to the aging and disabled population of
Clark, Floyd, Harrison and Scott counties in Indiana.
Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital is a 60-bed facility owned and
operated by Frazier Rehab Institute, Floyd Memorial Hospital and
Health Services, and Clark Memorial Hospital. SIRH provides
comprehensive inpatient and outpatient physical therapy,
occupational therapy, speech therapy, injury prevention and other
services to people of all ages, pediatric through geriatric.
