Background: Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital (SIRH) provides
stroke survivors with a fun-filled, enjoyable weekend at the annual
Stroke Camp. Participants enjoy outdoor activities, led by trained
professionals in a structured, accessible environment. They are able
to socialize with others who have experienced a stroke, as well as
learn about strokes, stroke recovery and readjustment into leisure
activity.
Each year SIRH welcomes approximately 25 stroke survivors to the
camp. Families are welcome to participate with their family member,
but are not required to do so. Staffed with nurses, therapists and
other hospital personnel, the campers are able to fish, enjoy
hayrides and bonfires, arts and crafts activities and much more,
without the fear of being alone.
SIRH is sponsoring a community cookout and raffle to raise funds for
this camp. The luncheon will be on Friday, August 10, from 11:00
a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Meal tickets are $6.00 per person and must be
purchased no later than August 8, 2007. The menu for this year’s
cookout includes: grilled chicken quarters, red potato salad, baked
beans, chips, desserts and drinks. Carry out is available.
The funds raised help defer the cost from campers. This year’s camp
is September 27-30 at the Country Lake Christian Retreat Center in
Henryville, IN. To purchase tickets for the luncheon and/or the
raffle, call Kerri Cline at (812) 941-6153.
