Thank you for your interest in SIRH's Speech Language
Pathology (SLP) Student Program. Students are accepted from various
Master's Level Programs. Most rotations are 8 weeks, however, this may
vary. The SLP Student Program accepts one student per semester.

Type of Experience
Each student will work with a caseload in an Acute Inpatient Rehab setting, serving primarily adults, adolescents and some pediatric patients. SLP services are also provided for adults, adolescents, and children, including the First Steps Program. |
Patient Population
Common diagnoses for adults include brain injuries and
neurological disorders (CVA, MS, Parkinson's Disease, etc.). Pediatric
disorders include brain injuries, developmental delay, autism and
apraxia.
Hours
Practicum experiences are considered full-time and coincide with that
of the the designated Clinical Supervisor's
schedule:

8:00-4:30 (Monday-Friday) Students are not
expected to work a weekend.
9:30-6:00 Designated hours for the first Monday and second Tuesday of each month for family education
evenings, for inpatient rotations. |
SLP Student Assignments / Expectations
SLP students are expected to work with their Clinical Supervisor's
caseload in collaboration with the supervisor. Experience with
videofluoroscopy studies is available. It is expected that each student have a strong interest in Rehab.
SLP Student Program- Suggested preparation
Students are responsible for the understanding and ability to perform
skills during the clinical experience, which have already been covered
within the curriculum at each University / College.
